Justice, Faith & Power

The fight for justice and the book is dedicated to Albartis Arnwine, Gracie Arnwine, Mary Arnwine, Winnie Arnwine, Anaka Arnwine, Sterling Arnwine, and to their descendants living in the USA today.

TRUTH AND JUSTICE FOR THE ARNWINE FAMILY

Candice Hammons
Justice is a concept of fairness that must be based on ethics, rationality, law, religion and equality. It is a concept that upholds the equality of all people and treats everyone fairly. About 168 years ago back in the 1800’s, in Jacksonville Texas, the Arnwine family ancestors were included in a will that mandated anything remaining of said estate be equally divided amongst said negroes. However, the will was contested in court, and they never received anything. The Arnwine Family seeks the support of the community and the country in righting the historical wrong perpetrated on our forebears. There is a change.org petition online seeking the return of legally owned land to the family, on which we hope to create a memorial with all the slaves that were named in the will and honor the legacy built in the most trying times. We would like them all to get proper burials; we would also like to pursue a community center called the Arnwine Community Center in the city of Jacksonville, Texas, in honor of our ancestors. We know our ancestors would be enormously proud of our efforts and fight to get the justice that is long overdue for the Arnwine family. The Arnwine Family wants to turn a wrong into a right. We know that times have changed and there are a lot of families and people pursuing justice that has been long overdue. We want to join in the fight and make a wrong, right in today’s society. The fight for justice for the Arnwine Family can also support the Arnwine descendants financially to help provide for their family’s needs and work towards a better future. The Arnwine Family would like for you to stand behind us in our fight for justice for our ancestors. We would also like to encourage others and honor our ancestors. We have come a long way in our society, and we have trust and faith that our long overdue journey for justice will not go in vain; we will receive victory in this battle.

WHAT JUSTICE MEANS TO DIRECTOR, CANDICE HAMMONS

The Arnwine Family has a strong bond with all of us standing together to join this fight, and effortlessly and tirelessly reaching our goal to receive the proper justice. The Arnwine Family asks the question, what does justice mean to you? We answer that justice is to make a wrong, right, to honor our ancestors, get what was rightfully left for them and bring awareness to our society that it’s never too late for justice. Justice in this day and age has changed from back in the 1800’s when our ancestors didn’t have much of a choice in fighting for justice, and due to a lack of education and money, it was nearly impossible for them to fight the battle. We now have the education, resources, and leaders to help with getting justice. I often wonder what it was like to not be able to stand up for yourself and for your words not to be heard or just overlooked. Justice isn’t just about the Arnwine Family getting back what was rightfully left for our ancestors, it is also about being treated fairly and promoting equality for all people. That’s what it means to us, and we want to be able to be a part of equality and being treated with fairness as our ancestors’ descendants in this day and time. It’s a story that a lot of people know so well, but we want to stand up and make a change and by doing so, we can honor our ancestors who were treated unfairly. We know that they would be honored and proud that their descendants are standing up as a family together to win the battle for justice.
We would like to let the future generation have knowledge and education on how justice can bring changes from back in a time where justice wasn’t fair. Technology and researching your history can go a long way to help identify who your family is and where they come from with DNA testing. You can find records and censuses that can help you find where they lived and other information. That’s where some of the Arnwine Family discovered how our story started back in the 1800’s and the injustice our ancestors faced. We have come a long way with getting the education, knowledge and skills to be able to fight our battles today for justice; justice has no time limit. There was a time when our ancestors didn’t have the education, knowledge or fight to stand up for themselves –the time is here now.
Justice is here for all that are willing to stand up, let their voice be heard and fight for what is right. No matter how long it’s been, you can stand up for injustice and make a positive difference to help our society and help make a better world. All people are entitled to being treated fairly and equally. There are unfair things that happened back in the 1800’s that still do today, but we have trust and faith and believe that the Arnwine Family will get justice. We are patient and diligent in this fight and we will stand together to make sure that we are heard for our ancestors who aren’t here to win the battle. Their voices will be heard through us with all we have in our hearts and souls.
Justice Is Here. It is time for the Arnwine Family to stand up and prepare for winning the battle. We are hoping you join us in our fight and support us to celebrate our win for our ancestors. That will be the day the Arnwine Family will rejoice, justice will finally be served and our ancestors will be acknowledged in Jacksonville, Texas. Oftentimes people will give up, get tired or lose hope in the fight for justice. We are ready, standing tall and proud to fight this fight for our ancestors, to be able to hold our heads high as mighty soldiers that we have been through this journey for justice. In life there comes a time when you have to sit back and think about what is worth fighting for. Most people say their families, and that’s why we are standing together as a family to fight for justice today. We admire the families and people that are setting stepping stones for other people to begin their journey for justice.
The Arnwine Family’s heartfelt sorrows and pain throughout the years of no justice and the fear of giving up are all things of the past. We are here to stand up and get true justice for our ancestors who never thought that this day would come. We are here to let their voices be heard through us their descendants. We are here to let our light shine as a reflection of our ancestors who would be proud and grateful that we are following a path of doing what’s right and standing up for justice.
The Slave Owner of the Arnwine women included them in his will and he wanted the women and children to be free. He wanted them to have what was left of his estate and was kind enough to want that for the women and children. We look at him as a hero to stand behind them and make sure they were to live a free life and have something upon his death. We applaud him for what he did for the slave women and the children. We want to honor him for honoring the slave women and their children, which are our ancestors. Justice is exactly what the Arnwine Slave Owner wanted for the women and children, and he didn’t see it any other way. The story of the Arnwine Women is something that we can look at and see that justice needs to be served and is long overdue. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel and long before you know it , the Arnwine women and children will finally be free and receive the reward that was given to them. The Slave Owner of the four Arnwine women and children truly showed that he was giving them what they deserved as human beings. He didn’t want them to have to go through life struggling. He wanted them to be free, to be able to live in a world where they can go to public places freely, walk proudly down the street, share their happiness, not be afraid to speak, not be afraid to go inside a store and purchase things, cheerfully run on the grass without fear, march down the road together, join hands and sing with joyful voices – that’s what the Arnwine women Slave Owner wanted for them.
We the Arnwine Family Descendants truly honor their Slave Owner who is a part of our family, and we call him A HERO. He did what a lot of Slave Owners did not do back in those times. He wanted the women and children to be free and wanted them to have something to be able to live and survive with in the world back in those days, and to be able to take care of their children. We want to honor him and thank him for giving our ancestors respect and honor. He is A True Hero. Why is justice important? Justice is important because it forms the foundation of a civilized society. Societies without just laws can tend to be harsh and this can lead to conflict. Justice promotes fairness and equity across many aspects of society. It is only through the application of justice that freedom, happiness and truth can exist. Justice is the highest virtue because it is inherited in the rational part of the soul, and because its object is more noble. How do you practice justice as a virtue? We must define what is rightly owed, then we must act accordingly.
The Arnwine Family have come to a conclusion upon the death of their Slave Owner, that our ancestors, the four women and children, were denied justice. The four women and their children never received anything. The Arnwine Family wants to make things right in today’s society. Justice is important to give everyone fairness and equity. The journey may seem long, tough and tiresome, but there is a true reward in the end. Imagine the screams, tears of joy, the outpour of applauds in the crowd, the clapping of hands from everywhere, the smiles and tears on people’s faces, people looking in awe, the loud sounds of music, the shaking of hands, the roaring of a thunder sound, people dancing in excitement, and people hugging each other from happiness. That day will be the day you hear our ancestors rejoicing and singing praise, because they will know that this long battle for justice and freedom has been WON! That’s what will be a part of our reward and the Arnwine Family standing united, excited, proud and thankful for JUSTICE! When the battle is over and we receive our victory, we will hold hands together and look up to the skies to our ancestors and sing songs of praise, for freedom, justice and equality!
